Dr. Alogna’s academic journey began in Sicily, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Palermo, followed by a Master’s degree in Biodiversity and Evolution from the University of Bologna. His early work focused on Helix aspersa snails, but it was his research into the African Giant Snail (Achatina fulica) that unlocked the potential of snail secretions for advanced therapeutic applications.

In 2017, Dr. Alogna co-founded HelixPharma, where he successfully developed snail-based products for the nutraceutical and medical industries. This early success, demonstrated by the launch of commercial products and key partnerships with leading healthcare providers, showcased his ability to bring snail-derived compounds to market. It paved the way for the founding of SETs in 2021 alongside Dr. Astrid Tripodi and Mrs. Silvia Torlasco.

At SETs, Dr. Alogna focuses on expanding the therapeutic potential of Achatina fulica secretions, particularly their application as alternatives to antimicrobials (AMR), skin regeneration, and, more recently, anti-tumor therapies. His research has resulted in several peer-reviewed publications, validating the efficacy of snail-derived bioactive compounds in clinical settings.
